October 2nd:
  • Math:
  • Science: Today we began our procedure writing for the egg drop. Students will use these procedures on the final egg drop day to replicate their crate.

October 1st:
  • Math Class we worked on Lesson 9 engage NY We are solving ratio word problems using ratio tables and equivalent fractions.
  • Science, the egg drop continues. Today is their last day to build. We will write our procedure piece next to document the work so that it will be replicable. The day of the competition students will be given fresh supplies to rebuild their crate in 30 minutes. They will be able to reference their procedure paper during that time.

Sept. 30th:
  • In math we did lesson 8 and students worked through word problems using any of the strategies we have covered this year to help solve ratios. They are continuing to improve on finding equivalent ratios.
  • In Science we are continuing to work on the egg drop challenge. Many students were testing their crates and found flaws in their initial designs. They are making observations and making changes based on those observations. They are also keeping journals to document their work. We will keep you posted about the egg drop date once it is confirmed with the fire dept.

Sept 29th:
  • There was a sub today due to a science conference that I attended. Students worked on their hornworm websites with qualitative and quantitative data. Our worms are currently burrowing as they enter the pupa state.
  • We continued with egg drop.

Sept. 28th:
  • Today in math we worked on equivalent ratios. We are preparing for lesson 8 in Engage Ny Curriculum. Students are learning how to determine the value of a ratio. We also did some data analysis work on the horn worms. We weighed our biggest worm and it weighed 8.4 grams. We will begin putting this data into a science webpage tomorrow.
  • Science: We are continuing to create egg crates for our egg drop. Students are using a set group of materials and using creativity and strong design elements to create a successful container. They are writing science journals to document their work.
  • As a team we released our monarch butterfly that hatched over the week-end.
